Spring into Fitness
Here are a few ideas on getting active and staying healthy this spring.
Hula Hooping! Believe it or not, getting outside and hula hoping is an activity that is fun, and actually effective! This simple work out uses 3 pounds to work all of your major muscle groups. It strengthens your core, hips and back. You can even use it as a warm up for other physical activities. And the greatest thing is, you can do it anywhere! Find a hula hoop at any local discount store.
Walking. Take a walk around your local neighborhood. Take a walk with a friend. This is a simple way to just get outside and enjoy spring! By walking 30-60 minutes about 3 times a week, this is a great exercise to build your endurance and keep your body healthy. Walking has been proven to be just as effective as running as long as its preformed in longer periods of time.
Running. Running is by far one of the best things you can for your health. It is the number one aerobic activity that delivers impact to your bones and joints, keeping them healthy and strong. If you’re not used to running on a regular basis, start out with jogging two to three times a week, and slowly increase your speed by 10%, until you are comfortable with your speed.
Go For a Bike Ride. Bicycling is a great way to get outdoors and ride around with friends or family this spring. You can bike in your community, or even on a trail. Maybe even work your way up to mountain biking! This activity improves your flexibility and strengthens the joints and muscles of your lower body. Another alternative is a stationary bike or even a spin class! Spin classes are great especially if you want to work up a nice sweat. Go with a friend, and make getting healthy for spring FUN!
