Winter Layering

The days are shorter, the mornings are crisper, the evenings are cooler, but it doesn’t mean your wardrobe needs an overhaul. Make the most of what you already have and layer up!

Experiment with mixing texture. You can layer a classic, lightweight sweater with a leather jacket. As long as it’s not too bulky, it can look really sharp. Wearing a denim shirt under a cardigan adds a layer of warmth and another contrast of texture.

The vest is versatile, fun and is another seasonal crossover that works great with layering. The vest is here in several shapes, textures and levels of drapey-ness. Top off your sweater dress, or add contrast to a black on black look.  Belt your drapier vest at the waist over skinnies or a skirt. Wearing your vest open and casual as an inner jacket layer is another fun way to combine texture too.

Cozy up your flirty dress. Your favorite spring dress can transition into winter by layering a fall sweater on top. Don’t be afraid to belt your cardigan, adding definition to your waist. Be sure to add legwear for additional style and warmth.

Play up color with your winter basics. Our favorite winter jackets and coats are usually monochromatic. So if you want to shop, but you also want to keep the cost down, freshen your winter wardrobe with basics like turtlenecks, scarves and hats in the season’s colors. Let your accessories serve as your color “pop”.

Face the cold fearlessly by experimenting with your layers. Have fun being creative, and don’t forget your favorite boots!
